Camping | FUTALEUFU
For kayakers that want to camp in a safe spot with clean facilites and really easy access to the prime whitewater sections, this is the place to pitch your tent!
FACILITIES
We have a designated area for camping by the river with a nice shelter for cooking, big table and benches, clean water and toilet facilites. There is a great firepit overlooking the river and forest, and with an abundance of firewood around for those late Patagonian summer nights. You are a rock´s throw from the river and can enjoy our nice beach on sunny days, or hang out under the many big native trees reading your book. We also rent out kayaks, and organize shuttles for the river. If you want some days off the river, we can help you organize horse back trips with our neighbor, or hiking to secret spots in the area.
LOGISTICS
The best perch however is that this is the put-in for the best section of the river, as we are situated pretty much at the half-way point, and just above Terminator rapid. Simply paddle from our beach for a nice little warm-up float before you hit Terminator, Son of Terminator, Kyberz and Himalaya, and then straight into Bridge to bridge, and of course – Casa de piedra. Likewise, if starting from town you paddle Inferno canyon, Zeta, Throne Room, the Wild mile and then stop at us – either for a lunch, or to call it a day.
As we are on the river left side trafick is limited, and we are off the beaten track unlike many other camp spots along the carretera on the right side of the river. Here we like to think that life is a little slower, (which is FUNNY as life is never too busy on either side of the Futaleufu!) and our small community is open and friendly.
COMMUNITY
If you camp at our spot you also help the local community, as they will sell you eggs from their chickens, vegetables, salads – you can hire them for horse back rides or guided hikes. We also make sure we employ our neighbors for looking after our property, pay them to maintain it for us in the off-season, buying fire wood from them, helping them out when needed like when the hay needs cutting, or simply showing up for the cumples, (birthdays) asados, gatherings and what-nots. Mariann has been a part of the community since 1999, and sincerely from when she bought her first hectar back in 2005 – when there was no road, no electricity and one had to paddle in and out of the property every day.
