Why the north?
The region of Helgeland sports a wide variety of rivers ranging from class II – V – and there are plenty of amazing class three and four rivers to be had. We have been in this region since 2002, and know where to go when – there is always water in this area if you know where to look. And we do.
Norway is world famous for its whitewater, but most foreign kayakers do not make it further north than Trondheim – but it is in the north the real whitewater gems are hidden! Our 8-day trip is one of a kind, and will make sure you never want to leave this northern paradise.
We make sure you don’t have to worry about anything except your own paddle strokes from the time we pick you up and until you leave! Be prepared for lots of fun kayaking, happy times around the bon-fire and to fall in love with the north of Norway. We did.
It is not all about waterfalls and gnarly whitewater in Norway, though we have more than our fair share in the north if that is what you want! There are plenty of class three and four rivers that will provide fun challenges, and our guides will help you with friendly tips about your paddling skills if you want – or simply guide you down whatever line you feel comfortable with on every given day.
Camping, food and transportation
Our base camp is situated at our rafting base in the small town of Trofors. Here we live right at the take-out of the Austervefsna river, a gem with 35 kilometers of whitewater on it, and even great fishing. We will put you up in a shared traditional lavvo – like the Samiis have used for centuries, or you can bring your own tent to pitch if you want more privacy.
We provide 3 meals a day, and breakfast and dinner will be served at the basecamp. Note that alcohol is not included. For lunch we will bring tasty lunchpacks along on the river trips.
The closest airport is Mosjøen airport, with domestic flights from Oslo, Bergen, Trondheim and Bodø. If you want to fly into Oslo you can then catch the train directly from the airport to Trofors – it does not really get much easier! We can help you with booking the train tickets if required, and we can pick you up at the airport in Mosjøen or the train station in Trofors.
Equipment and kayaks
You have to bring your paddle and your paddling gear. You can bring your own kayak, however, we have a wide range of kayaks availible for rent (NOK 200/day for guests during the kayak week). You also need to bring a sleeping bag and a sleeping mat.
